What a Schengen Visa Is
A single Schengen visa lets you travel through all the member countries on one permit. You apply through the embassy — or its appointed visa centre — of the country where you will spend the most nights, or your first point of entry if nights are equal. It is the most document-intensive tourist visa most Bangladeshi travellers will ever apply for.
The Document Set
- Passport valid 3+ months beyond your return, with two blank pages, plus old passports
- Completed application form and recent biometric photos
- Confirmed round-trip flight reservation and hotel bookings for the whole stay
- Travel medical insurance with at least €30,000 cover, valid across the Schengen area — this is mandatory
- Bank statements for the last 3–6 months showing a steady balance
- Proof of employment or business: salary certificate and NOC, or trade licence and company bank statements
- A day-by-day travel itinerary
Proof of Funds
Each country publishes a minimum daily amount it expects you to have. Your statements should show enough to cover the trip comfortably, with the money sitting in the account rather than appearing in a lump the week before you apply. Large unexplained deposits raise questions.
The Appointment
Appointments at the popular embassies fill up weeks ahead, especially May–August. Book the slot as soon as your flights and hotels are reserved. You attend in person to give fingerprints and submit the file; a short interview is sometimes part of it.
Timeline
Standard processing is around 15 calendar days but can extend to 30–45 in peak season or if additional checks are needed. Start the whole process 8–10 weeks before travel. Do not book non-refundable flights before the visa is issued.
