A Sensible First Route
Thailand → Malaysia → Vietnam is the classic loop and works well over two to three weeks. It keeps flights short, visa requirements manageable, and costs low. Fly into Bangkok, travel south through Thailand into Malaysia overland or by budget flight, then fly to Vietnam for the last leg.
Daily Budget by Country
- Thailand — hostels, street food, and local transport are cheap; the islands cost more than the north.
- Malaysia — slightly higher for beds, similar for food; excellent value in Penang and KL.
- Vietnam — the cheapest of the three for food and local buses; sleeper trains and buses cover long distances overnight and save a night's accommodation.
A disciplined backpacker can travel on a low daily figure in all three; doubling it buys private rooms and the occasional flight instead of a 12-hour bus.
Visas
Requirements for Bangladeshi passport holders differ by country and change often — Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam each have their own route (visa on arrival, eVISA, or embassy visa depending on current policy). Sort all three before you leave; do not rely on getting them en route.
Getting Around Cheaply
Overnight trains and buses are the backpacker's friend — they move you while you sleep. Budget airlines fill the gaps; book those a few weeks ahead. Within cities, ride-hailing apps are cheap and remove haggling.
Staying Safe and Sane
Keep digital and paper copies of your passport and visas, split your cash between two places, and buy travel insurance — a single hospital visit abroad can cost more than the whole trip. Move slower than you think you should; three cities done well beats seven rushed.
